The very first step to do this would be to locate the capacitor. You will find it as the cylindrical tube charged with storing energy that will be used to run your air conditioner. The reason the capacitor is so important in your air conditioner is that it works in tandem with the motor, fan, and compressor of your air conditioner. Now you can clearly see why the capacitor breaking down or not working properly will have a huge impact on your air conditioner.
Identifying if the capacitor is the culprit in your air conditioner not working is easy enough. When you are troubleshooting, you first have to check and confirm that the capacitor is still in its original shape. If you find it misshapen or broken, you must replace it immediately. Other times, the capacitor could be in good shape but your air conditioner still wont work. When getting into air conditioner repairs, you will first have to turn your unit on and pay close attention so that you can listen in on whether there is humming or whether the motor is running. Sometimes the air conditioner could be humming or the motor could be running but the fan doesnt run. Other times, the air conditioner couldnt be humming but the fan isnt running. These are clear indications that your capacitor needs replacement.
Turn off your AC before you start working on the capacitor. After you have turned it off, you have to make sure that first, you have disconnected the capacitor from the power unit. Be very careful at this stage as you will also need to note the way the connectors have been done on the connector. Gently remove the wires and set the old capacitor aside. The new replacement should ideally be of the same make and model but if you are unable to find one, you can ask for the closest model. Replace the capacitor making sure to connect all the wires as they were before. Make sure to tighten them properly as you dont want your capacitor coming loose!
Replace the AC casing and turn it on and observe if it is working as it should. As the capacitor has been fixed, your AC should be back to its previous state of providing you with comfort!
